Stocks Option Trading and The Risks Involved

Article by Gregory Miles

According to some experts, the intense risk takers are those that invest in stocks option trading. They are also called option players. These players usually purchase short-life assets in the hope that it will have an enormous increase in value. If the option players are able to purchase the right asset, they can expect a return of 500%, which is really huge money.

Choosing the right short-life asset is not an easy task. Besides, you will also need to wait for about two months before you can determine if you win or loose. You will lose everything if the stocks option did not increase in value or if its value remained flat.

This is the main reason why many traders claim that option players are risk takers. It would have been much better if they invested in stocks because even if the value remained flat, they will not lose the money; the only thing that these traders will lose is the opportunity of investing in a much better stock.

Options are considered declining assets. The depreciation rate is faster than that of cars; in fact, the stock options will be worthless in a couple of months.

High risk comes with high rewards but this is not true all the time. Option players do believe in that cliche. They claim that in order to gain extraordinary profits, a trader must be willing to take enormous risk, regardless of the amount of money involved.

Intelligent option traders are very careful with their decisions. Prudent investors are scared to invest in stock options but with thorough examination and analysis, they may be able to choose the right bet. If buying a stock option is considered very risky, selling it is even riskier. Experts even say that when you sell stock options, there is the possibility of losing more money than what you invested.

If you want to be a good options player, you must disregard the fact that it is a risky game. Think of it this way – buying or selling stock options simultaneously is not risky. Properly executed strategies can create lesser risks as compared to investing in a mutual fund or stock. This entails a lot of work on the part of the trader.

If you want to become good at options trading, you must learn how it works. You must be familiar with the investment process and you must be active. You can’t simply ignore your investment and so you must check or monitor all transactions, and the market as a whole, from time to time. A lot of traders hate to exert a lot of time and effort in stocks option trading but they don’t realize that it’s nothing compared to the possible profits they can gain.

So, is stocks option trading risky? Of course it is but only to those who are very lazy to spend more time and effort in options trading. By giving yourself enough time to learn the basics of options trading and the investment process involved, you will surely be able to make a worthy investment.

If you don’t take the risk now, you will not be able to earn the profits you deserve. Ask yourself this question – are you prepared to spend more hours in the computer analyzing market trends and other trade factors? If your answer is a yes and if you have adequate investment, proceed with stocks option trading.

Difference between stocks, bonds, futures, options, and forex?

Question by Anonymous: Difference between stocks, bonds, futures, options, and forex?
I don’t know anything about trading, but am interested in learning. I don’t need an in depth answer to this question as I can Google it. I’m simply looking for a basic answer as to the differences between stocks, bonds, futures, options, and forex.

Answer by Rocky Rich
Stocks and bonds are considered equities as you actually own “something” either a small portion of a company through shares of stock or the right to interest payments if you buy a bond. Futures Forex and Options are derivatives as you do not “own” anything when trading these products, your gains and losses are calculated based on the performance of an underlying asset. When you buy Stock you purchase shares of a company, your maximum loss occurs if the company’s stock price goes to 0. Futures and Forex are traded on margin, which means your account must have a minimum amount of money in it to open the trade but not the full value of the investment, the remainder is covered by your broker. Because you put up a small amount of money to control a larger amount of money you are using leverage. Because of leverage you may lose your entire investment and it is possible to lose more than your investment if the trade goes against you. Options are the right but not the obligation to purchase an underlying asset by a certain date, the underlying asset may be shares of stock, futures or forex contracts etc… You pay a premium when you buy an option and you collect a premium when you sell or “write” an option. You can bet the underlying asset will rise or fall in value by buying calls or puts respectively. Hope that helps!

Trade Stocks Online for Less with New Ultra Low Commissions and Margin Rates from Place Trade

Trade Stocks Online for Less with New Ultra Low Commissions and Margin Rates from Place Trade

www.PlaceTrade.com

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) August 31, 2011

Sarah M. Place, President and CEO of Place Trade Financial, Inc., [Member FINRA, SIPC], (http://www.placetrade.com), a global full service, discount broker and online trading firm, announced that the firm has lowered its online stock, bond, option and margin rates to some of the lowest rates in the financial services industry. While continuing to offer the lowest commission rates of any known national full service broker dealer; Place Trade has shown that they are true competitors in the online trading arena as well.

In addition to the benefits of the already low commissions and margin rates; Place Trade clients receive savings on their investments via price improvements. In an industry wide Execution Price Comparison, Place Trade’s clearing firm was shown to offer a $ 0.30 price advantage – meaning that experienced traders enjoy verified Net Dollar Price Improvement vs. the national best bid/offer price on their trades. These numbers offer a significant savings to investors who often unknowingly may pay a much higher overall price per transaction while saving a couple of dollars on fixed rate or “free” commissions.

Place Trade’s ultra low commissions for experienced online traders are:

Online stock commissions are only $ 0.01 per share (All-in – minimum $ 2.95).

Online option trades are only $ 0.75 per contract (All-in – minimum $ 1.50).

Place Trade’s margin rates are significantly lower than the national average as well. Current rates range from as low as 1% and are capped at less than 2.10% on lower balances. Both online traders and full service clients will benefit from these ultra low margin rates.

“We are thrilled to offer our clients some of the lowest commissions and margin rates of any national broker dealer,” said Place. “In an era where many firms claim to offer flat or low fees or even free trading Place Trade reminds investors that there is no such thing as a free lunch. Place Trade never competes against its clients and always offers straight forward pricing without bloated fees or spreads that often make those “free” trades very expensive.”

Is there a way to scan for stocks that currently have higher volatility?

Question by Scott: Is there a way to scan for stocks that currently have higher volatility?
I’m looking for a way to get a list of individual stocks that, for whatever reason, have at least an implied higher volatility. Maybe Yahoo finance, or MSN finance has such a screener, but I’m not sure how to get there.
Thanks

Answer by wc
Meta stock, is what you are looking for. It is a stock screener that you can program for several different results. The down side is you have to subscribe to it.
If you use schwab’s street smart pro to buy and sell stocks, it will display the volume of any stock you select. It will not search for you though
You can also go to volatility .com, which is a bit tedious but free.

Learn The Basics of Stock Trading Online without The Risk and Make Money with Stocks and Options

The best way to learn stock trading online is by practicing trading on online trading simulators. There are also mock trading games available online where novice traders can test their skills or learn new skills. There is also a method called ‘paper trading’ that works well. Practice may not make perfect in a volatile stock market but practice has proved to be prudent before beginning to trade with money on online trading platforms. Once you have the basics down you should compare online discount brokers and open an account.

There are two types of simulators available for practice on the internet. One simulator offers a fictional portfolio based on real stock entries, stock market scenarios and stock market crashes. This is for the serious potential trader to learn strategy. There are also stock market games online that are fantasy based. These do not always present realistic stock market situations. Both simulators are useful for online stock trading wannabes to learn the ropes.

Virtual stock exchanges, market simulators and online trading games are the different ways by which an online trading aspirant can learn the finer points of trading online. Virtual competitions help the trader compete with other aspirant traders and achieve a fictional goal.

]]>

The important part of practicing trading through these simulators is to take the game seriously. The trader wins nothing, loses nothing but learns almost everything about online stock trading. The trader should keep a budget and a goal while learning to trade online. Trading on a simulator will help to trade within a budget and stopping when the goal is reached.

Potential traders can learn the different types of trade and trading with different types of stock. They can learn to trade with penny stocks, day trading, scalping, options trading and futures trading without using real money.

Experts believe that a trader can start trading with money after ten successful trades. The best time to enter the real money stock trade is after the trader is comfortable with trading and feels that practice should be converted into profits. Traders must try to learn as much as they can about loss mitigation, exiting and profitable trading while practicing with simulators. Traders must trade with different portfolios and learn from their practice mistakes. They should learn risk management while trading. Some simulators help potential traders by giving expert evaluation of their progress.

Practice is a time for learning. Potential traders must deal with the whole process as if they are working with real money. Treating the process like a game with a, ‘nothing to lose’, attitude will not help the aspiring trader to learn the process in depth. Learning to control losses, using strategies or a combined set of strategies to make profits and learning to stay within a budget will help when money is invested in the process. Practicing in interactive simulators with other potential traders will help to learn new strategies from others.

Practicing trading on virtually simulated stock markets will help traders to avoid heavy losses when real money investments are made. To profit from the practice, the practice sessions should be treated as if real stocks are being traded and real profits are being made.
