Trading Options Online – Coupon Trades

When trading options online you may ask, what is a coupon trade? In our trading group this is what we call an out-of-the-money options trade with a long expiration date. Other words, this is an intermediate option trade with expiration of 3-4 months or more.

Why would a person coupon trade?

• Uses less capital
• Normally does not require constant monitoring
• You are looking for a long term investment. Several months.

When not to use a coupon trade

• If your weekly charts and your long term are not in solid agreement
• If the volatility of the stock or option is too high
• If you can not find an option with an acceptable delta that is between 25-40 cents

What to look for in a coupon trade

• Look for low volatility stocks that have a solid trend in the same direction on both the weekly and monthly charts.
• When looking for the desired option, look for deltas between 25-40 cents.
• Look for expirations that are at least 3-4 months out.

These need time to develop.
• Look for stocks that are being traded (higher volume stocks)

When to close your position

• Close your position when the delta reaches 50 cents. Don’t get greedy.
• If you reached a pre-defined limit or you feel you have made enough profit
• If the trade starts reversing

Coupon trading is a good way to trade if you have a smaller trading account or you don’t want to spend a lot of time in front of the computer. Some of our traders in our trading group have been very successful with this strategy. The most important criteria are picking low volatility stocks that have a history of sustained movement over 3-4 months.

Currency exchange has been around since the first tender was issued by the first primitive forms of government and has thus been evolving for thousands of years. One of the more recent developments in the field of currency exchange has been the introduction of online currency options trading.

Just as in “regular” online options trading, currency options – also referred to as forex options – enable traders and investors to speculate on whether the value of a specific currency pair (eg Euro-US Dollar) will increase or decrease within a pre-determined period of time.

Traders can trade these currency options in a manner very similar to online options trading, via online currency options brokers.

Here is basically how it works: Online currency options brokers offer traders various currency option contracts that stipulate that the trader can invest in the future value of a specific currency pair. If the investor’s speculation is realized, he or she is entitled to a payout which is equal to a percentage of the amount the investor chose to invest. In this way, trading currency options is just another form of online options trading.

Trading currency options may differ from “regular” online options trading in that some types of currency options, such as forex binary options, may not be offered by most major online trading brokers. Foreign currency exchange is often conducted “off-exchange” meaning the transactions do not pass through a centralized exchange. Because of this, a great deal of scrutiny is required to ensure the off-exchange transactions are carried out in the most fair and transparent manner in order to avoid unfair practices.

One other aspect of currency options trading that may differentiate it from “regular” online options trading is that online currency exchange brokers typically offer a higher degree of leverage than online stock brokers, for example. Trading with a higher degree of leverage can allow investors to both reap larger benefits and suffer larger losses.

All in all, currency options are another lucrative way to add to one’s investments portfolio and widen the online options trading horizon to include more exotic financial instruments. The announcement marks the first time since its 2006 launch that the company has added new programming categories beyond short-form television Shows (aka web series).

In preparation for the expansion, scheduled for mid-December 2011, the company has been quietly licensing docs and short films from filmmakers seeking a dedicated slice of real estate on KoldCast TV. “Entirely new sections of the KoldCast TV site, uniquely designed for each new programming category, are in development, and we expect to showcase these exciting new properties in an organized and impressive manner,” Samuels said.
